Messages & Notifications

The Rebased Firm Messages rail gives you a single inbox for notifications across your entire portfolio. It uses the same interaction model as the standard Notifications panel — expandable rows, mark-as-read controls, and links to the source — so there’s no new UI to learn.

Two tabs

The Messages rail on the right side of the firm dashboard has two tabs:

TabWhat it shows
PortfolioNotifications from all businesses under management, combined into one feed
ClientThe standard Messages panel for the currently selected client business

Portfolio tab

Inbox controls

The Portfolio inbox header matches the controls you already know from the standard Messages panel:

ControlWhat it does
InboxShows the notification list. The badge displays the number of unread items across your portfolio
Mark all readMarks every unread notification in the portfolio as read (appears when there are unread items)
Hide read / Show readToggles between showing all notifications and only unread ones

Reading notifications

Each notification row shows:

  • Category icon — invoice, quote, job, bank, Intelligence, etc.
  • Title — brief description of the event
  • Client name — which business the notification belongs to
  • Message preview — first line of the message (truncated)
  • Time — how long ago the notification was created
  • Source link — click to navigate to the relevant page
  • Unread dot — blue dot for unread notifications
  • Expand/collapse chevron — click to expand the row and see the full message

Expanding a row reveals the complete message text and a View button that navigates to the source document. You can read the full notification without leaving the firm dashboard.

Muting categories

Click the gear icon next to “All clients” to open notification preferences. You can mute categories you don’t want to see in the portfolio feed:

CategoryExample notifications
Quote / salesQuote accepted, quote declined
Invoice eventsInvoice paid, invoice overdue
Bills & payablesBill due, payment processed
IntelligenceScheduled workflow results

Muted categories are filtered out server-side, so they don’t count towards your unread badge. Changes apply immediately.

When you click a source link or the View button on a portfolio notification, Rebased navigates to the relevant page and includes the client’s business context automatically. This means you land in the correct client business without needing to switch manually.

Client tab

The Client tab shows the standard Messages panel for whichever client business is currently selected in the Intelligence panel. It includes:

  • Inbox and Sent tabs
  • @Mention replies
  • New message composer
  • All the same controls (Mark all read, Hide read, etc.)

If no client is selected, the tab shows a prompt to select a client in Intelligence.

Troubleshooting

No notifications showing

  • Check that you have businesses in your portfolio (firm dashboard should show clients)
  • Verify Hide read isn’t active
  • Check your muted categories — you may have muted the category you’re expecting

Unread count seems wrong

  • The unread count respects your muted categories. Muted notifications are excluded from the count
  • If you just marked all as read, the count resets across all portfolio businesses

Can’t see a specific client’s notifications

  • The Portfolio tab shows notifications from all businesses under management
  • If a notification is missing, check whether its category is muted in preferences
  • For per-client detail, switch to the Client tab and select the business in Intelligence
