Invoice template benefits

For recurring billing:

  • Retainers: Monthly service packages
  • Subscriptions: Regular recurring charges
  • Progress billing: Standard milestone structures
  • Product catalogs: Standard product lineups

Integration with Invoices

Presets speed up invoice creation:

  • Item Groups: Insert bundles of related items at once
  • Templates: Start new invoices from pre-built structures
  • Consistency: Same pricing and structure across invoices
  • Efficiency: Save time on recurring invoice types

Best practices

For recurring invoices

  • Create templates for monthly retainers
  • Build item groups for service packages
  • Use consistent naming (e.g., “Monthly Retainer - Tier 1”)
  • Update prices in presets when rates change

Data hygiene

  • Review presets quarterly
  • Archive outdated templates
  • Use clear, descriptive names
  • Document intended use in descriptions

AU-specific notes

  • GST handling: Presets inherit tax codes from component items
  • BAS alignment: Consistent account mapping supports reporting
  • Terminology: Template language should match AU standards
  • Currency: All prices in AUD
